Jason Anderson Foundation For Youth Sports Awards First Grants to Help Youth Athletes In Need

LEWES, DELAWARE - The Jason Anderson Foundation for Youth Sports today announced it has awarded a total of $3,000 in grants to several local sports organizations which will help children in need participate in youth sports. The announcement represents the first grants awarded since the Foundation was created in 2015.

The recipients each received $1,000. The three groups awarded grants are:

  • Dover Little League
  • Kent County Stallions
  • The Police Athletic League of Delaware Youth Basketball League at Garfield Park

The Foundation’s mission is to provide children in need the opportunity to participate in an organized local community sports program. All three recipients of the inaugural grants have shown their commitment to providing access to sports activities to all members of the community. The three recipients plan to use the funds for sports equipment, uniforms and to help cover registration fees for families in need.

The Jason Anderson foundation For Youth Sports is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt not-for- profit organization was founded by the Anderson family after Jason tragically died in an automobile accident in January of 2015 at the age of 33. The outpouring of support for the family from friends, colleagues, co-workers, neighbors and gracious members of the community prompted the family and close friends to establish this foundation in Jason’s name as a way to give back to that community.

Sports were an essential part of Jason’s personal and professional life including his time at Syracuse University, the Syracuse Sky Chiefs, the New Orleans Saints, Dover Motor Sports and the Ohio University Sports Administration program. Jason also quietly gave back to his community. He volunteered his time to the Autism Society of Delaware, the Brain Injury Association of Delaware, the Delaware Sports Commission and the Central Delaware Chamber of Commerce.

Jason chose a career in professional sports but never forgot how important they were to him as a child and demonstrated that commitment through his actions helping young people at all levels.

"On behalf of the Anderson family, Jason’s wife Kati and our Board of Directors, we are thrilled to award these grants to organizations that engage in activities Jason held very close to his heart", said JAFYS Board President Andrew Schwab. "Jason’s life was extremely meaningful to each of us and it is so important we continue to keep his memory alive doing the work he would have been doing himself.”

How We Finished in 2015

Dear Supporters:

We are excited to report that, in a very short period of time, the Foundation  surpassed our 2015 year-end fundraising goal by a significant margin. Our site went live on Saturday, December 26th with one goal in mind - raise $2,500 before the New Year so that we may enter 2016 with the plan to begin vetting community organizations for our grant process, thus opening the Spring registration process to children in need.

We have our donors to thank for getting our final 2015 tally to just over $3,100! With these funds, Foundation members will begin formalizing the organization vetting and grant application processes so local area children may benefit from their local sports organizations regardless of their family's financial status.

2016 Is Just Around The Corner

Help us raise our initial seed money! With the end of 2015 quickly approaching, help us honor Jason with a year-end tax deductible contribution. We've set a modest goal to raise $2,500 by the end of the year. Help us cross the finish line as we build a foundation in Jason's memory to make sure children in need get to play the youth sports Jason cared so much about!
