Slam Dunk to the Beach 2016 “Alley-oop to Youth Sports” Fundraiser

On December 15th the Delaware Sport Commission held its VIP Reception for sponsors and local community leaders as part of the kick off for the 2016 Slam Dunk to the Beach basketball tournament.  This tournament features a host of local and mid-Atlantic high school basketball teams competing over a 3 day period in order to showcase local and regional talent.  Teams from New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York, Maryland, South Carolina and as far as away as Canada will participate in this annual event hosted by Cape Henlopen High School on December 27th-29th.

Once again, we are proud to announce that the Jason Anderson Foundation for Youth Sports has been selected as the charitable organization of choice by the Delaware Sports Commission and the Foundation took this opportunity to hold its first major fundraiser by auctioning a fantastic selection of sports memorabilia and donated items including a Drew Brees autographed football, a Jim Brown autographed football, a Kevin Harvick autographed die-cast NASCAR race car, autographed items from the Philadelphia Flyers and the Philadelphia Union, a signed photo from Raven’s wide receiver Steve Smith Sr, an autographed Brooks Robinson limited edition Norman Rockwell print, suite tickets at Dover International Speedway for a 2017 NASCAR race, as well as other generously donated and valued items.

The evening event was a huge success and the Foundation raised over $1,400 toward its 2017 goal.  Having donated $8,000 to local youth sports organizations in our first year of operation, this fundraiser will help us continue the great work being accomplished in Jason’s honor to help children in need participate in an organized community sport of their choice.
